Today's offering showcases this rare and handsome 9K rose gold Art Deco mens midsize Rolex made in c. 1928.
In the first decade after the turn of the twentieth century when someone referred to a gentleman's watch they most often meant one object - a large, timing instrument kept in the pocket. That changed in part because of Hans Wilsdorf, a true legend in timekeeping history, who founded Rolex Watch Co. in 1908. When the first World War erupted, demand rose sharply for these novel watches as Allied servicemen needed a more suitable way to access their vital timepieces.
At the close the of the war watch company's continued further down the path of having wristwatches eventually replace pocketwatches as the timepiece of choice.
At the heart of the Art Deco era, right after their release of the very first Oyster watches and before they began to specialize in mostly sport watches, Rolex crafted dress wristwatches of very fine quality.
This classic Rolex, which has a slight officer's style to it, features a pleasing cushion case, luminous dial, and very fine Rolex handwound movement.
It also is on the front edge of the recent trend toward smaller watches. As a mens midsize it is well-suited to someone who doesn't have a large wrist.
Complementing the dial are its striking luminous blue steel hands which glow brightly along with the dial numerals. The hour hand is original, and the minute hand is a period replacement.
With the exception of the hand, the rest of the watch is fully Rolex.
Its case is in excellent condition with only light wear and very slight indentions on the left side. Its wonderful light silver dial has been meticulously restored - its printing could pass as Rolex factory done to the naked eye.
Its high-grade Rolex hunter signed movement is clean. As part of the restoration a Master Watchmaker has fully serviced the movement. Because of the age of a watch like this and the positional errors watches like this often develop, please don't expect it to time on par with a modern Rolex - it is keeping generally accurate time, running within a couple of minutes per day when timed on a machine that simulates it being worn on the wrist.
For the finishing touch, we have equipped it with a brand new leather strap and aftermarket Rolex style buckle making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty on the movement and its function and a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity
Don't miss the chance to own a rare and pleasing early solid gold Rolex.
